What is a Feminist Reading Practice?
A
feminist psychoanalytic reading assumes that the human psyche consists of universal desires and fears
which reveal the workings of patriarchal ideology. Such a reading is by
definition socially and historically decontexualised; it claims that the
feminist meanings of the novel are the same for all periods of history and
society.
|
The "images of men and women" approach derives from a feminist humanist reading practice, which analyses the characters in literary texts for what might reveal about "real people" in "real life."
|
A feminist reading that considers a texts productions and reception. Rather than considering what is within a text, this reading practices explores the social and historical context of both the writer and the reader.
